Membership Benefits
The Sri Lankan Board on Books for Young People (SLBBY) is the local section of the International Board on Books for Young People established in 1953. It is a non-profit organisation run by volunteers. The SLBBY’s objectives are in line with the main organisation, namely to develop understanding and relationships between nations and communities through good books, thereby leading to a harmonious and peaceful world. If you are willing to volunteer for this worthy cause you can join SLBBY and contribute to develop all aspects of the organisation’s mission.
As responsible Sri Lankans, it is our duty to promote our local literature for children and youth and those of other countries. This must be done by translating or promoting the stories to be translated. To achieve this great objective, we should be equipped with high standard literature in order to address the common issues of the world. In this sense, comparatively speaking, we are far behind international standards. Therefore, we need to develop the technical knowledge and skills of our writers and illustrators, while promoting the reading habit in our society. So, our immediate approach is to balance all these objectives and as a whole to develop the literature of this sector in our country.
ශ්‍රී ලංකා ළමා සහ යොවුන් පොත් මණ්ඩලය (SLBBY) ජාත්‍යන්තර ළමා සහ යොවුන් පොත් මණ්ඩලයේ (IBBY) ලංකා ශාඛාවයි. එය ලාභ නොලබන ස්වෙච්ඡා සංවිධානයකි. 1953 දී පිහිටුවන ලද ජාත්‍යන්තර යොවුන් පොත් මණ්ඩලයේ පරමාර්ථයන්ට සමගාමීව ජාතීන් සහ ජනවර්ග අතර අවබෝධය සහ සංහිදියාව වර්ධනය කරමින් ලෝක සාමය සහ සහජීවනය තහවුරු කරලීම සදහා ළමා කාලයේ පටන්ම පොත් මාර්ගයෙන් විවිධ රටවල සංස්කෘතීන් සහ සාරධර්ම හුරුපුරුදු කරවීමට SLBBY සංවිධානය කැප වී ඇත. මෙම සද්කාර්යයට ඔබට දායකවීමට හැකිනම්, අප සංවිධානයේ සාමාජිකත්වය ලබාගත හැකිය.
සමාජයේ වගකිව යුතු පුරවැසියන් ලෙස අපගේ යුතුකම වනුයේ යහපත් අනාගයක් සදහා ලොවට අවැසි පසුබිම නිර්මාණය කිරීමයි. විදේශයන්හි උසස් සාහිත්‍ය කෘති මෙරට දරුවන්හට හදුන්වා දීම මෙන්ම අපගේ උසස් කෘතීන් පරිවර්තනය කර ප්‍රවර්ධනය කිරීම මගින් ඉහත ඉලක්ක කරා යාමට හැකි වනු ඇත. මේ අර්ථයෙන් සන්සන්දනාත්මකව බැලූ කල, අපගේ සාහිත්‍ය කෘතින් සහ චිත්‍ර නිරුපන බොහෝ දියුණු කළ යුතුව ඇත. එලෙසම සමාජයේ කියවීමේ පුරුද්ද දියුණු කල යුතුව ඇත. අප සංවිධානයේ ප්‍රමුඛතම කාර්යය වන්නේ මෙම ද්විත්ව කාර්යයන් සමබර ලෙසින් දියුණු කිරීමට උර දීමයි.
